Disney and Pixar’s, SOUL, Redefines the True Meaning of Life, Delivering an Impactful Storytelling of Self-Discovery, and Hope

SOUL (2020) Film review

Have you ever wondered why some people are living their wildest dreams whereas others seem to be miserable, and stuck in the same cycle everyday?

I came here to tell you I don’t have the answer, however, Disney and Pixar Studios successfully distinguished the differences between what the idea of ‘living’ is like in Soul. With the director that brought you the mastermind of Inside Out (2010), Pete Docter teased the first ever African-American protagonist lead. Although the theatrical release was cancelled due to pandemic restrictions; Soul failed to hit box office numbers but immensely proved to be a critically acclaimed film that wonders the question we often ask ourselves, “What is the purpose of my life?”

Storytelling for Soul redefined the meaning of what living in the moment are about. The narrative tackles on real-life events and issues that our society has taught us since day one. Joe, played by Jamie Foxx and ’22’ played by Tina Fey has teamed up that brought the audiences to their feet. What do we expect to happen when two artist that has mastered their craft comes together? Something magical that is. Disney and Pixar Studios never seem to fail on having a poor script or acting performances at hand.

Somehow, the director, filmmakers, screenwriters collaborated in perfect unity debuting the type of inspiring film dedicated for mature audiences that have grown up watching Disney. Those people are now in their 20s, figuring out what they want to do in life.
Along with the impactful message of hope; Soul playfully demonstrated the journey of Soul Searching.
Furthermore, Soul captivated the heart, eyes and ears by their insanely attention to detail on their animation technique. From lighting, cinematography, original soundtrack to voice acting, the film exceeded beyond animators expectations with advance digital technology that makes one feel all the excitement. On a critical note, a background story could have revealed a closure for the respected characters to increase an emotional attachment towards the end.

Finding the purpose of living may seem like the destination yet Soul has dig deeper, expressing that there is endless possibilities of what our life could be like. Overall, the film deserves to attain Oscar-buzz with the best animation feature due to its lighthearted humour with compelling visions and uplifted spirits of finding ourselves at a new chapter of where you are now; all it takes is for us to be brave enough to turn the page over and start living our long-awaited vision.
